Biographical Data

 

            Mark Fields entered the United States Air Force in 1954.  Prior to his military career, he attended senior year of high school in El Dorado, AR, and was awarded an art scholarship to Arkansas State College for his natural talent of drawing and painting.  His educational background includes completion of the accredited programs of Art Instructions, Inc. of Minneapolis, the Minnesinger School of Fine Arts, The Air University at Maxwell Air force Base, Alabama, and the University of Maryland.

            During his military career, Mr. Fields was cited as an outstanding illustrator, specifically for his part in designing a model of the Military Airlift Command’s new Operations Division and Command Post.  He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for this project.  He was lauded for his entry in an international competition sponsored by the Latham Foundation while stationed in Arabia.  He has also completed several freelance assignments in Europe, Africa, Asia and the United States.  His extensive travel has heightened his appreciation for the things special to the American scene and especially captures the western and southwest nostalgic.  He was assigned as the Chief of Graphics for the Aerospace Audiovisual Service at Carswell Air Force Base, Texas, engaged in television production.  During his off duty time he initiated art instructions at the base Youth, and Arts and Craft centers, and enjoyed the position of instructor of painting and drawing at American Handicrafts in Tandy Town.

            Mark Fields’ military career ended in a retirement ceremony and was employed by a company engaged in communications learning systems, as Art Director and on to Chief of Creative Design.  All of his skills and knowledge was exercised in numerous phases of commercial art, illustration and fabrication.  Among them were designing and building cockpit trainers for classroom instructions and many trade show displays for major corporations trade shows.  

            Prior employment led to employment as Night Manager for a major international cooperation engaged in courseware development and animated systems for their training centers throughout the world.  All management and creative skills revolving around multimedia and programming were highly exercised.

`           Since his arrival to the Fort Worth area, Mr. Fields became an executive staff member of the Association for the Advancement of Black Artists, member, AAW (American Artist of the West), President of the Northwest Art Association, Azel, Texas,  member, Southwest Watercolor Society, member, Fort Worth Art Association, Co-Chairman of the Electrical Board for the City of Fort Worth.

            Mr. Fields’ works has been displayed in the J.L. Hudson Gallery and the Detroit Historical Museum, Detroit, Michigan.  The Chapman Gallery in Fort Worth, The University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Christian University, The House of Frames and Gallery, Pendulum Gallery, the University State Bank of Fort Worth, Maria Cross Gallery of Western Art, Flying T Gallery, Azel, Texas, Ratliff’s Gallery, Granbury, Texas, The Americana Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico and the Savage Gallery, Sainte Genevieve, Missouri.  Most recently, Mr. Fields has joined the Fort Worth Community Arts Program where he was commissioned to design and implement a Mosaic Street Name inset in the curb of one of Fort Worth’s neighborhoods.

          Mr. Fields’ has enjoyed the pleasure of participating in numerous competitive art shows more often than not, winning 1st place and Best of Show.  He is fluent in all Medias; however, remains closer to the love of watercolor.
